Teaching mathematics through the use of ICT tools could be characterized as a necessary trend that will not cease to exist. The students are familiar with the way technology is used, as well as with the use of technological devices and interactive applications.

Students can have access to plenty of material related to mathematics, such as calculation and geometrical models, coding, hypotheses, ways of finding and assessing data. There are also activities that require mathematical logic and reasoning.

The students  will  be able to combine their experience  on an informal type of education to a formal one. This course is essential since the above goal is difficult to be achieved only with the use of an effective multimedia software that provides a self-learning guide.

The teacher will use educational  methods to support, inspire and address  those learning challenges that arise due to technology.

Most teachers need to be able to apply ICT in ways that enhance the teaching and learning of the curriculum. The role of ICT in the teaching and learning process should not be  just as an electronic blackboard or  to encourage students to exercise their kinetic skills.

 

The use of ICT can:

  •  Help the teacher plan an interesting and interactive lesson and assess the students perf0rmance with the help of it
  • Present a notion in multiple ways, so that the students can comprehend it better and communicate as well as cooperate with both their classmates and their teacher
  • Enable the students to explore and solve new or old problems (addressed  by Ancient Greek Mathematicians)
  • Allow the creation of mathematical games which the students will enjoy

This lesson takes into consideration all the above, focusing on the new learning platform, provided by Geogebra.

GeoGebra is a dynamic mathematics software for all levels of education that brings together geometry, algebra, spreadsheets, graphics, statistics and calculus in one easy-to-use package. GeoGebra is a rapidly expanding community of millions of users located in just about every country. GeoGebra has become the leading provider of dynamic mathematics software, supporting science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) education and innovations in teaching and learning worldwide.

Methodology

  • The lesson is in the form of a seminar
  • The trainees will first learn the basic skills of using  Geogebra tools. They will construct simple structures on their own
  • They will learn how to use complex tools and software commands. They will also construct structures related to the teaching of a lesson.
  • They will learn how to use the software tools that might result in developing a task, individually or in groups.
  • They will learn how to create new tools with which they will construct complex structures in the context of mathematical reasoning
  • They will practice borrowing ideas from other creators, analyzing and exploring their structures
  • They will learn how to experiment and create structures that will inspire others
  • They will learn how to use and show their students attractive techniques that enhance the quality of learning
  • Those who participate in the class will cooperate with each other and will present their structures every day, receiving feedback that aims at the better use of the tools.
  • They will also be guided by specialized educators whose goal is to use pedagogical methods so as to support teaching

We aim at encouraging the participants to use attractive teaching methods for their students, to make their students more interested and become active members of the mathematical community.

  • The effective use of ICT tools to test and grade students fast and efficiently.
  • The effective use of ICT tools to enjoy and motivate students.
  • The use of tablets and smartphone applications as teaching aids.
  • How to create lesson plans and pedagogical scenarios with the use of Geogebra.
  • To gain knowledge and use the new Geogebra apps.
  • To be familiarized with the new Geogebra forum and be an active member.
